Cantor Opening Call
  • The FTSE is called to open up around 20 points today, and trading is expected to be light with US markets closed for Thanksgiving
UK Corporate Announcements
  • SABMiller announces an H1 EBITA of $3.2bn, just ahead of the forecasts and states that its margins have risen modestly with free cash flow up 14% to $1.7bn
  • Mothercare reports H1 underlying pre-tax loss of £0.6m on sales of £388.4m and states that UK consumer confidence remains weak and that it will not pay a dividend
  • Close Brothers states that it has made a solid start to the year and that its assets under management have gained 2% to £8.5bn and it remains on track for full year profitability
  • Daily Mail reports full year revenues of £1.96bn just missing the forecasts but states that it is performing well and in line with its expectations

  • Supermarket chiefs have written to the government looking to extend trading hours on Sunday December 23rd, expected to be the heaviest shopping day of the year
  • The Times suggests that France and Italy have ‘taken aim’ at the British EU rebate ahead of the EU budget talks, while the FT suggest that hopes were rising that an ‘unlikely deal’ with the UK was taking shape
  • The FT writes on how Man Group has moved $1.5bn of its main computerised fund AHL into a new portfolio
  • Mervyn King, Paul Tucker and Andy Haldane all testify before the Parliamentary Commission on Banking Standards today
  • Reckitt Benkiser has signed a merger pact with Schiff Nutrition at $42/share, valuing the group at $1.49bn, as it fights off rival interest from Bayer
