  • The FTSE is seen starting the day down around 20 points
UK Corporate Announcements
  • Vodafone states it takes a £5.9bn impairment on Spain and Italy, and plans a £1.5bn share buyback, as it details Q2 organic service revenues fell 1.4% worse than the forecasts 0.7% falls, but sees its full year adjusted operating profit in the upper half of the guided range
  • ITV announces group revenues gained 4% to £1573m and states it makes further progress in reshaping and rebalancing its business, and states that the TV ad market remains volatile
  • Persimmon states that full year trading is seen in line
  • Capita details that its organic growth for 2012 is in line with the forecasts and that it remains well placed
  • Afren reports nine month pre-tax profit of $145.5m as revenues gain to $1.1bn and maintains its full year outlook
  • De La Rue states that its H1 performance has been in line with the expectations
  • Workspace announces an H1 pre-tax profit of £34m from £33.1m
  • Cineworld states that the strong open to Skyfall has buoyed trading and confirms its full year outlook

  • Vodafone and Verizon are to receive $8.5bn dividend from their US joint venture, down from last year but ahead of the expectations
  • The UK Energy Secretary is expected to announce today that regulators are looking into allegations of manipulations in the wholesale natural gas market
  • Bloomberg highlights sources which suggest that Xstrata is considering a revised offer for Lonmin, which previously rejected an offer from its largest shareholder
  • The Times writes on how the judge in the UBS $2.3bn trial of the ‘rogue trader’ should not acquit him just because of any general dislike of the banking industry
  • The UK RICS fell to only -7 in October, well inside the forecasts of around -15 seen, suggesting that while prices have still been falling the rate of the falls has slowed, only gaining in London and the South East
  • William Hill and GVC Holdings announce they are extending their offer period on Sportingbet until December 4th

  • Early trading may be affected today as a computer error on the NYSE meant that 216 stocks failed to have a normal closing auction yesterday, causing issues for hedge fund managers and brokers that are obliged to trade at the official closing price, set by the closing auction
  • Microsoft announces that Windows and Windows Live President is to leave the company, he had previously been tipped to be the next CEO
  • US press suggests that Google is being pressured by the US FTC to settle the antitrust probe or risk facing a lawsuit
  • Kodak announces $793m in financing to emerge from bankruptcy
  • US press writes on how Weintraub Capital Management, the $1bn long/short fund is returning money to investors and will just become a family office overseeing the wealth of founder Jerry Weintraub, as 424 hedge funds have liquidated so far in 2012, from 775 last year, the highest since 2009
  • Jefferies has agreed to sell itself to Leucadia National in a $2.8bn deal, and states the moves would allow the investment bank to handle the ongoing market uncertainty, Leudcadia already owned 28% of the bank
  • Amazon, Starbucks and Google would be top of the UK papers if there was not the ongoing media circus at the BBC, as senior executives faced UK politicians yesterday and were accused of being immoral over the international accounting practises

  • An Australian business confidence survey fell into negative territory and matched the sentiment of the markets
  • PepsiCo has opened up its largest research centre outside of the US in China, as it looks to tailor food and snack food brands to the growing market
  • In Australian trading Seven West Media gained 11% as it announces that earnings may gain, the stock has fallen 60% so far in 2012
